Issues related to learning process

Related Issues During the Academic Course

During the course, if students have encountered any administrative problems, they can contact the Student Service Office (at bldg. E0001) for immediate assistance. Hereunder are the following to consider:

1. Class Exemptions

Students can apply for class exemptions of the following classes if they already have acquired the passing grades of equivalent classes taken from other universities or colleges - in terms of volume and content, as follows:

  • Basic Principles of Marxism-Leninism;
  • Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology;
  • Revolutionary of Communist Party of Vietnam;
  • Physical Education;
  • National Defense Education.

In addition, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) will consider exempting other equivalent classes or classes with the same class codes that students have studied at TDTU.

In order to obtain an approved class exemption, students must submit an Application for Class Exemption including the Official Transcript of Records Certificate to the Student Service Office (E0001).

Application process:

  • Students must submit the required documents within two (2) weeks prior to the starting period of the semester to be able to drop such registered classes. (Students must submit their application of exemption subject for cancelling classes). And therefore, will not be further required to pay the equivalent tuition fees for the said dropped classes. – It is applicable to subjects in accordance with the training schedule in the program.
  • In any case that students have submitted the required documents after the starting period of the semester can only drop registered classes (Students submit application for dropping classes), without tuition refund.
  • Class exemption processes of English and Fundamental of Informatics classes have different regulations. Students may refer to the MOS based Regulations on Studying English and Regulations on Studying Fundamental of Informatics for each course.

2. The issue of tuition fees and examination conditions related to tuition     obligations

  • Students have to follow the significant milestones of the school-year plan and announcements from the Finance Department (website: http://ptc.tdt.edu.vn or Student Information System, Notification module ⇒ Finance Department, or the Fees module) at least once every 03 days to complete the tuition fee on time.
  • During the tuition payment period, students who cannot afford their tuition fees have to submit a Tuition Fee Renewal Form (written with their valid reasons): (Student Information System => online application module). Students must make follow ups to know the answers from the Student Affairs Department (Student Information System => Online Application Submission => Application History) in order to pay the tuition fee based on the answer.
  • If students are successful in their Additional Registration for the Course, they will have to pay additional tuition fees according to the Finance Department's terms and conditions. Note: For special English modules, students should regularly update the Student Information System to fulfill their tuition obligations.

Regulations on Examination Conditions: There are 02 types of examination conditions in the same semester.

Examination Conditions on Tuition Fees:

If the students have not paid the tuition fee, or have paid less than the required amount, they will not be eligible for taking the examination of that particular semester.

In each semester, there will be two (2) periods to consider the requirements for the examination due to the debt of the tuition fee: midterm and final exams (including subjects without the examination schedule as well as English and MOS)

If students do not pay the tuition fee of that particular semester, the debt will be added to the tuition fees of the next (semester) one.

If students failed complete the tuition fee for an extra semester, it will be added to the next main (semester) one.

For example: If students owe tuition fees of extra semester 1

Tuition fees of semester 2 = tuition fees of semester 2 + tuition fees of extra semester 1

Consideration the examination conditions due to attendance:

Students who fail to meet the attendance requirements of each subject will not be eligible for taking the examination of corresponding subject.

Students must carefully follow the attendance rules announced by the Instructor of each subject at the beginning of the semester so that they will not be banned from taking the examination.

Students who are not allowed to take exams (mid-term and final tests), will get a corresponding grade of F (failure), which is equivalent to 0 point.

3. Examination Schedule and Subject Assessment

Examination Schedule

Basing on the School year Plan, the Department of Undergraduate Studies (DEUS) will announce the examination schedule three weeks prior to the official examination date, through the following channels:

  • DEUS Website => News => Exam Schedule
  • Student Information System => Notification => DEUS
  • Student Information System => Exam Schedule

On the examination schedule, there are timelines for students to apply:

Transfer Exam Time (due to the same exam day, or in unexpected circumstances and the exam time of the same subject takes place on another day: Students must login the Student Information System => Apply online and follow directions.

  • For the Postponement of the Examination Time (due to the same exam day, or in unexpected circumstances but the exam time of the same subject does not take place on another day) Students must login the Student Information System => Apply online and follow directions.
  • For the Postponement of the Mid-Term Examination: The DEUS will schedule for an additional examination for students during the semester. Students must follow the information on Student Information System and the DEUS Website.
  • For the Postponement of Final Examination: Within a maximum of one academic year from the end of the semester with postponement, students must keep on-track of the school year schedule and the examination schedule of the most recent semesters for test registration. After one year, if the student does not register to take the examination of postponement, the grade of the postponed subject will be changed to 0.
  • Test registration (for students who have been considered for postponement of the final exam within one year): Students login the Student Information System => Apply online and follow the instructions.

Subject Assessment

The subject is recognized if it has an average grade of > = 5.0 or grade M.

Grade point average = Total (Component score x Percentage score)

For example: Mathematics A has 03 columns of assessment:

In - class assessment: accounted for 10% - 6.0 points

Mid- term test: accounted for 20% - 7.0 points

    Final test: accounted for 70% - 4.3 points

Average score on Mathematics A = (6.0 * 10%) + (7.0 * 20%) + (4.3 * 70%) = 5.0 => Achieved

► Students will have to register and retake the failing subjects until they pass.

Particularly for English subject and MOS, students will follow the particular rules on the Student Information System ⇒ Regulations.

4. For problems of Processing, Academic Alert

At the end of each semester, the following students will be warned of their academic performance: grade point average of less than 2.00 for the first semester of the course; less than 2.50 for the next semester or less than 3.00 for 2 consecutive semesters.

Students are excluded from university if they are under the following cases:

  • Be warned of learning results for two (2) consecutive semesters.
  • Exceeded the maximum allowable time for school attendance.
  • Be warned for the second time on the grounds of substitute exam taker or having another to be substitute exam taker or be removed the name from the student list because of being disciplined or reprimanded.

The maximum duration of the training program is as follows: plus 04 semesters for courses of 3 years or less; 6 semesters for courses over 3 and 4 years; and 7 semesters for courses over 4 years.

For example: Accountancy students with a 4-year training period who began in September 2017 will expire in September 2024 (including 4 years of training period plus 3 years).
